Unit 4: Earth Science
Learning Goal:
Concept 1: Label the layers of the Earth.
Concept 2: Explain the evidence that connects to the existence of the supercontinent Pangaea. (Continental Drift)
Concept 3: Describe the forces that drive the movement of the continents. (Plate Tectonics)
Concept 4: Label the three types of plate boundaries.
Concept 5: Relate the type of plate boundaries to Geologic Events such as Earthquakes, Erupting Volcanoes, and other geologic phenomenon.
Concept 6: Read a tectonic map to determine Types of Plate Boundaries, Geologic Formations at Plate Boundaries, and Geologic Events at Plate Boundaries.
Concept 7: Develop a plan for yourself and a family in the event of a natural disaster.
Concept 8: Determine components of a kit that would be useful in the event of a natural disaster.
Day 1: Intro Earth Science Quiz (for fun...) + The GREAT Earth Science Trivia Game!
Homework: Read the Article - Structure of the Earth + Camp Summit Reflection
Next Class: One World Video Presentations Peer Review + Pangaea Puzzle Day 2: The Structure of the Earth + Comparing the Structure of the Earth to an Avocado + Pangaea Puzzle!
Homework: Read the Article - The Success of Plate Tectonics + Finish Pangaea Puzzle and Q's if not done in class (glued on a white piece of paper)
Next Class: Evidence for Continental Drift + the Mechanism for Plate Movement See below for where the continents would be for the supercontinent Pangaea!
